"Don't be pushed by your problems.  Be led by your dreams."Ralph Waldo Emerson

Meet the new 7th grade student (paper girl on the board). She was torn down with negative comments and then put back together by a positive comment. Some things are never the same...WORDS MATTER

Tolerance & Empathy Lesson: if you tear down another with unkind words, it is difficult to repair and that person will never be the same.

Students in Grade 6 & 8 have an instructed lesson on careers. They take an interest inventory on their likes/dislikes and abilities to be matched with potential future careers. Holland's Hexagon is discussed and students understand that their given code corresponds to specific traits and career choices. Some of this is done online with exploration with career websites.

Many of the lunch times are booked by lunch bunches. Students are invited to the Guidance Office to spend more personal time in a quiet lunch setting while chatting with friends. This time is utilized for unstructured conversation, peer mediations and/or for students to spend time with other classmates or grade levels.

Bully BEANS-K- Mrs. Sleight’s class learned about how to empower themselves and what to do if they encounter a struggle with a friend or even a bully. They learned that to be a bully the behavior has to be repeated, unwelcome and intrusive.  We read Bully Beans by Julia Cook. This book showed our class that sometimes we need strength and support to stand up for ourselves. It talked about the role of the bully and the bystander. They also made bully bean hats.
