Green Ribbon Week Mrs. Arivella’s Advisory Group of St. Michael School is excited to bring to you... March 18th-22nd…We are celebrating Green Ribbon Week, with many fun activities! This campaign is held to unite communities nationwide to educate and raise awareness about mental health. Last year’s national theme of #4Mind4Body is taking it to the next level, exploring topics of animal companionship, spirituality, humor, work-life balance and recreation and social connections as ways to boost mental health and general wellness. St. Michael School will focus on encouraging and educating on healthy behaviors. Mrs. Arivella’s Advisory Group will speak daily during morning announcements to introduce the day with information, encouraging words, and music. Each day will have a theme- please mark your calendars if you choose to participate! Monday, March 18th: Great Choice Green Day-dress down day to share your uniqueness and individual style whether you are Irish or not and wear green. Please dress accordingly to what is appropriate for our school. Annual SBIRT (Screening, Brief Intervention and Referral to Treatment) screening by Mrs. Arivella, Nurse Larkin and Nurse Tognarelli begins for Grade 7- Notification/Permission letter to be sent to parents, prior. Tuesday, March 19th-Thankful Tuesday: We are thankful for the bodies and brains that God gave us. We are thankful for the gift of life. Today, we remember to be thankful with fun activity sheets from nursery to Grade 3 for our health and safety. Lesson for Grade 6 on the new and dangerous trend of Nicotine and Vaping. Information on Vaping/Juuling will be sent home for Upper School parents via email as well as prior permission and notification. Wednesday, March 20th Disney Day- Creativity is what makes this world unique and music is also a stress reliever! We will recognize each of you as creative, smart and safe individuals. Mrs. Lavalle will host a performance tribute to classic Disney music, N-3. We also welcome our School Resource Officer, Officer Pramas to host an internet safety lesson to Grade 5. Grade 4 will be given an introductory lesson on the damaging effects of nicotine & tobacco and the very basics on the latest trend, e-cigarettes. More info to follow regarding permission slips. Thursday, March 21st-Socks Off to Stop the Stigma- When we talk about health, we can’t just focus on heart health, or brain or liver health. We need to see the whole person and support everyone in their own journey to health and wellness. Wear crazy socks to signify that you stop the stigma & support each other with respect and kindness. Today we also wear crazy socks to support World Down Syndrome Day. Everyone has different needs and we need appreciate each other for the way God made us. Grade 6 will be given green bracelets to wear today. Grade 8 will have a lesson given by Mrs. Arivella & Nurse Larkin on Substance Abuse. Friday, March 22nd- (half day, dismissal at 12:15) Be a Player in Prevention- Each student will be given a green slip of paper to create a school wide chain as a reminder to be proactive and be aware of the stigma of mental illness. They will sign their name on each chain link to signify a pact to make healthy choices. The Improbable Players is a small crew of actors in recovery from substance use disorder who will perform for Grades 5-8. I’ll Never Do That is a 45 minute play that focuses on substance abuse, specifically alcoholism (who it affects, how to cope and that it is a family disease). The play is based on a true story and is aligned to the Health and Social Emotional Learning curriculum framework. It will be followed by a 15min Q & A forum. Kate Middlemiss of the Joseph Big Heart Foundation visited and spoke about kindness. The foundation donated at Kindness Library to our school! Our school also made a donation back!
Ryan Middlemiss spoke about the effects of drugs on an individual and the family. Our school was able to donate money to the Haven of Hope in memory of his brother, Jeffrey Middlemiss. |

Anti-Bully Week Activities
Grade 6 participated in a lesson on the difference between joking, teasing and bullying. They learned about our school policy and Massachusetts State Law. They were asked to offer comments or situations that they found upsetting in regards to teasing and bullying.

St. Michael School supports tolerance & empathy for others through the celebration of Anti-Bully Week. Students participated in activities, an assembly, and classroom lessons. The Bully Busters Group also designed a short video clip to enjoy. Please click on the video (shown left of screen)

We try to reach all ages through various programs which support our PAWS character education program. Assemblies are age appropriate and teach skills on safety, friendship and self confidence.
